The optional Litigation Module provides dedicated records for disputes, infringement matters, litigation proceedings and TTAB cases, including events, deadlines, parties, documents and related intellectual property records.

Litigation and Dispute Records

Dedicated proceeding records organize case information and responsibilities separately from patent and trademark records while allowing related matters to remain connected.

Capabilities include:

  • Plaintiff and defendant information
    Records identify the parties involved in the dispute or proceeding.
  • Jurisdiction and proceeding numbers
    Court, agency, jurisdiction and proceeding identifiers are maintained with the matter.
  • Custom litigation types and statuses
    Subscribers define classifications and statuses that match their litigation workflows.
  • Activities, notes and documents
    Users retain dated activity, explanatory notes and supporting files with the proceeding.
  • Events, schedules and deadlines
    Proceeding dates and litigation responsibilities are managed through the DocketTrak event system.
  • Responsible-user assignments
    Attorneys, paralegals and other users can be assigned responsibility for the matter.
  • Links to related patent and trademark records
    A proceeding can be connected to the intellectual property records involved in the dispute.

TTAB Data Integration

DocketTrak examines TTAB proceeding data daily and updates supported Opposition, Cancellation, Concurrent Use and Counterclaim proceeding records.

Capabilities include:

  • Opposition proceedings
    DocketTrak supports TTAB proceedings challenging publication or registration of a mark.
  • Cancellation proceedings
    Cancellation matters can be tracked with their parties, TTAB information and deadlines.
  • Concurrent Use proceedings
    Supported Concurrent Use matters are included in the TTAB integration workflow.
  • Counterclaim proceedings
    Counterclaims associated with supported TTAB matters can be maintained in DocketTrak.
  • Daily TTAB data review
    DocketTrak examines official TTAB information each day for qualifying changes.

    Detected TTAB changes update the corresponding DocketTrak proceeding records.

    A specialized view presents TTAB proceeding records using columns relevant to those matters.

Automatic TTAB Schedules

When a TTAB proceeding begins, DocketTrak adds the official schedule of events and due dates. Later extensions and schedule changes update those dates automatically.

Capabilities include:

  • Initial full TTAB schedule
    DocketTrak adds the complete available schedule when the TTAB first initiates the proceeding.
  • Automatic event and due-date creation
    Official schedule entries become DocketTrak events without requiring manual calculation.
  • Extension and schedule-change updates
    When the TTAB revises dates, DocketTrak updates the corresponding event schedule.
  • Blue calendar icon for automatically added TTAB events
    The icon distinguishes events supplied by the TTAB integration from other events.
  • User-created events retained separately
    Subscriber-created events remain available and do not receive the TTAB calendar indicator.
  • No manual triggering date required
    The official TTAB schedule provides the dates needed to create and update the event sequence.

Suspended, Terminated and Closed Events

When a proceeding is suspended, its schedule is retained until the TTAB resumes or terminates the matter. Events shown as CLOSED by the TTAB are marked Done.

Capabilities include:

  • Schedule retained during suspension
    Existing dates remain with the record while the proceeding is suspended.
  • Updated schedule when proceeding resumes
    DocketTrak applies the resumed or revised TTAB schedule when new official dates become available.
  • Support for terminated proceedings
    The proceeding record reflects termination information received from the TTAB.
  • Subscriber option to remove events after termination
    The subscriber decides whether to remove remaining schedule events after termination.
  • CLOSED TTAB events marked Done
    DocketTrak completes events identified as CLOSED in the official schedule.
  • History of schedule activity
    Record and transaction histories support review of schedule-related changes.

Automated TTAB Update Emails

When a new or revised TTAB schedule is added, DocketTrak sends an automated email showing what changed and the full proceeding schedule.

Capabilities include:

  • Email after initial schedule creation
    Subscribers receive confirmation when DocketTrak first adds the TTAB schedule.
  • Email after revised schedule dates
    A later email identifies schedule changes caused by extensions or other TTAB activity.
  • Summary of changes
    The message describes the new or revised information processed by DocketTrak.
  • Full proceeding schedule
    The email includes the complete schedule for convenient review.
  • Link to the official TTAB schedule
    A Schedule link opens the source schedule published by the TTAB.
  • Subscriber review and confirmation
    The message provides an additional opportunity to confirm that the DocketTrak dates match the official schedule.
